3 Days January 2027 Ndutu Private Safari for the Calving Season
The 3 Days January Tanzania Private Safari | Ndutu Calving Season 2027 is a short, wildlife-focused journey into the Ndutu plains of northern Tanzania during the opening phase of the wildebeest calving season.
January falls within the January–March migration period on the southern plains. TANAPA reports that the wider Great Migration involves more than 1.5 million wildebeest, while its migration guidance states that more than 250,000 wildebeest calves are born annually. Peak births generally occur later, around mid-February, so January should be marketed accurately as the early calving-season period, not guaranteed peak calving.
Lake Ndutu sits beside woodland and nutrient-rich short-grass plains that become important feeding grounds during the migration. Herd positions change with rainfall, so KiliPori Safaris structures the private game drives around current wildlife movements rather than a fixed sightseeing circuit.

Tour Highlights
Day by Day Itinerary
Leave Arusha in the morning in your private 4×4 with a KiliPori Safaris driver-guide. The route passes through the Ngorongoro highlands before descending toward the open plains of Ndutu.
January rains transform this part of the ecosystem into productive grazing country. Migrating wildebeest and zebra follow fresh grass and water, while gazelles, giraffes and resident wildlife remain scattered between the plains and woodland.
Your first Ndutu game drive begins after reaching the wildlife area. Instead of following a rigid route, your guide will use recent sightings, tracks and herd movements to decide where to spend the afternoon.
Continue toward Lake Ndutu before checking in for your first night.
Main Experience: First Great Migration and Ndutu plains private game drive
After breakfast at Ndutu Safari Lodge, depart for the main wildlife day of your 3 Days January 2027 Tanzania Private Safari.
The day is dedicated to exploring the Ndutu plains, Lake Ndutu surroundings and nearby woodland in search of migrating wildebeest, zebra and predators.
January represents the build-up to the main wildebeest birthing period. Herd positions are controlled largely by rainfall and grazing conditions, so wildlife cannot be guaranteed in one fixed location. This is why having a private vehicle is particularly useful during a Ndutu calving season safari.
Your guide can change direction as conditions develop rather than following the timetable of a shared safari.
Watch for cheetahs using the open plains, lions resting close to concentrations of prey and spotted hyenas patrolling the grasslands. Smaller predators including jackals may also appear around areas with concentrated herbivore activity.
A picnic lunch allows you to remain inside the wildlife area rather than returning to the lodge during the middle of the day.
Main Experience: Full-day Great Migration, predator and early calving-season tracking
Begin the final morning early, when temperatures across the Ndutu plains are cooler and wildlife activity can be particularly rewarding.
This final private Ndutu safari gives you another opportunity to locate migrating wildebeest and zebra while searching for lions, cheetahs, hyenas and other predators before the heat increases.
After the morning game drive, leave Ndutu and travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Arusha.
Your 3 Days January Tanzania Private Safari | Ndutu Calving Season 2027 ends in Arusha later in the day.
Main Experience: Sunrise Ndutu wildlife and Great Migration game drive
