Day by Day Itinerary
A KiliPori Safaris representative will meet your family at Kilimanjaro International Airport or your agreed arrival point. After assistance with the luggage, travel privately to your hotel in Arusha.
At the hotel, your guide will introduce the safari route to both adults and children. The briefing covers vehicle safety, expected driving times, wildlife-viewing behaviour, meals and the following morning’s departure.
Parents can use this meeting to confirm child seats, dietary requirements, room arrangements, medication storage and preferred rest times. The remainder of the day is free for the family to recover from the international flight.
Main experience: Personal airport welcome and child-friendly safari briefing
After breakfast, travel from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. Your first family game drive introduces children to Tanzania’s wildlife in a landscape of baobab trees, grassland and seasonal river habitat.
The guide will help children identify elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas and birds without turning the day into a checklist. Stops can be arranged when the children need to stretch, eat or use available facilities.
Enjoy lunch inside or near the park before continuing the game drive. Later, leave Tarangire and travel towards Karatu, positioning the family closer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for the following day.

Begin the day when your family is ready. An early departure can provide cooler conditions and more time outside, while a slightly later start may suit families with younger children.
Your private guide will select a route using recent herd information, track conditions and the family’s interests. Possible areas include Lake Ndutu, Big Marsh, short-grass plains and woodland edges.
Children may observe how young wildebeest remain close to their mothers, how zebras move through mixed herds and how prey animals respond when predators are nearby. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas and jackals may be encountered, but births and hunts cannot be guaranteed.
Choose between a picnic lunch in the field or a midday return to camp. The private vehicle allows parents to shorten or extend the game drive without affecting another group.

The second full day in Ndutu allows the guide to explore a different part of the ecosystem. Depending on rainfall and recent sightings, the drive may focus on Lake Masek, open plains near the Serengeti boundary or acacia woodland.
This additional day is important because the Great Wildebeest Migration does not remain in a single location. A flexible route gives the guide time to search beyond the previous day’s viewing area.
The family may encounter giraffes, elephants, bat-eared foxes, jackals and grassland birds in addition to the migrating herds. Children interested in photography can practise observing animals patiently rather than taking pictures from a moving vehicle.
Parents can request an afternoon rest at camp or remain outside with a picnic lunch. Return before dark for the third night in Ndutu.

Begin with a final morning game drive across the Ndutu plains. Your guide can revisit an area where the herds were active or follow recent reports to search for wildlife missed during the previous days.
After the game drive, leave Ndutu and travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards the crater rim. Picnic and comfort stops will be included to make the journey manageable for children.
Arriving near the crater rim on Day 6 places the family closer to the descent road for the following morning. This avoids driving to Karatu and then returning through the conservation-area gate on Day 7.
The temperature around the highlands can be considerably cooler than Ndutu, so families should keep a warm layer accessible rather than packed at the bottom of their luggage.
Destination: Ndutu to Ngorongoro Crater Rim
Main experience: Final calving-season game drive and scenic transfer through the conservation area
After an early breakfast, travel to the descent road and enter the Ngorongoro Crater for a private family game drive. Staying near the rim reduces the morning transfer and allows the family to reach the crater floor before vehicles arriving from accommodation farther away.
The crater floor contains open grassland, wetlands, woodland and permanent water sources within a relatively compact area. Your family can search for buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, lions and, with luck, black rhinos.
Your guide will adjust the pace around the children and stop for a picnic lunch at a designated site. After lunch and the final wildlife drive, ascend the crater wall and continue through Karatu towards Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Families should not book an early international departure on this day. A late-evening flight may be possible after checking realistic driving and airport check-in times, but an additional night in Arusha is safer.
