11 Days Private Kilimanjaro Climbing via Marangu Route and Private Tanzania Serengeti Safari

After breakfast at Mandara Hut, we leave the rainforest and continue climbing towards Horombo Hut. The trail gradually enters the heathland and moorland zones, where the vegetation becomes shorter and the landscape opens to wider views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

This section of your private Kilimanjaro climb includes a steady ascent through changing vegetation, with distinctive high-altitude plants and rocky sections along the trail. As we gain elevation, walking slowly and taking regular breaks helps us manage the physical demands of the climb.

The trek generally takes six to eight hours, depending on walking pace, weather and rest stops. We continue towards Horombo Hut at approximately 3,720 metres, an important overnight camp on the Marangu Route. Day three of your 7-day private Kilimanjaro climbing itinerary is dedicated to acclimatization at Horombo Hut. Instead of immediately moving to a higher overnight camp, we take an acclimatization hike towards Zebra Rocks before returning to Horombo Hut.

Zebra Rocks is a recognizable geological feature known for its contrasting dark and light rock patterns. The hike offers an opportunity to explore the high moorland landscape, enjoy views of the mountain slopes and gain additional elevation before the next stage of the Marangu Route climb.

This acclimatization day is an important part of the private Mount Kilimanjaro climbing package because it provides more time for your body to adjust to the altitude. Although acclimatization can improve the chances of adapting to higher elevations, it does not eliminate the risk of altitude sickness. We maintain a measured pace, drink water regularly and monitor any symptoms.

After returning to Horombo Hut, the remainder of the day is available for lunch, relaxation and preparation for the trek to Kibo Hut. The extra time at this camp helps you prepare for the higher and more exposed alpine desert environment ahead.

After breakfast, we leave Horombo Hut and continue towards Kibo Hut, the final overnight camp before the Mount Kilimanjaro summit attempt. The route crosses the broad saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, with expansive views of the mountain's rugged volcanic landscape.

As we move higher, the vegetation becomes sparse and the terrain increasingly dry and exposed. This section of the private Marangu Route Kilimanjaro climb requires a steady pace because the higher altitude can make even moderate walking feel more demanding.

We follow the trail across the alpine desert, taking breaks for hydration and allowing time to adjust to the thinner air. After approximately five to seven hours, we reach Kibo Hut at around 4,700 metres.

The summit attempt is the most challenging and memorable stage of your private Mount Kilimanjaro climbing adventure. Around midnight, we leave Kibo Hut and begin ascending over steep volcanic scree towards Gilman's Point on the crater rim.

The climb takes place in cold, dark conditions and requires patience, warm clothing, a headlamp and a controlled walking pace. After reaching Gilman's Point, we continue along the crater rim towards Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa.

If weather, safety and your physical condition allow, reaching Uhuru Peak provides an opportunity to celebrate your summit achievement and take photographs at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The time spent at the summit may be limited by conditions and the need to descend safely.

After the summit attempt, we descend towards Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing to Horombo Hut. This is a long day involving a substantial ascent and descent, so following the mountain crew's instructions and monitoring your condition are essential. Summit success cannot be guaranteed, and the climb may need to be adjusted for safety.

As we descend, the air generally becomes warmer and the vegetation becomes denser. Although descending is less demanding on breathing than climbing at high altitude, the uneven trail can place pressure on the knees and legs, so we maintain a controlled pace and take breaks as needed.

After breakfast in Arusha, we depart for Central Serengeti National Park, travelling through northern Tanzania towards the Serengeti ecosystem. The journey is a substantial overland transfer, passing through changing landscapes as we leave Arusha and head towards the wildlife-rich plains.

After entering the Serengeti, we begin a game drive in Central Serengeti if arrival time permits. The Seronera area is known for its mix of open grasslands, riverine habitats and woodland, creating varied environments for wildlife viewing.

During the drive, we search for animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and hyenas. Central Serengeti is valued for year-round wildlife viewing, although the animals encountered depend on seasonal movements, recent rainfall and local conditions.

Following the game drive, we continue to our booked lodge or tented camp in Central Serengeti. Enjoy dinner and relax after the journey from Arusha as you begin the four-day private Serengeti safari portion of your Tanzania adventure package.

After breakfast at your Central Serengeti accommodation, we head out for a full day of private Serengeti game drives. The day focuses on exploring the Seronera region, where river systems, grasslands and woodland habitats support a diverse range of wildlife.

During the morning drive, we search for predators and herbivores as they move through their natural habitats. Lions may be seen resting or hunting, elephants may travel between feeding areas, and giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and antelope can be found across different parts of the plains. Leopards also inhabit the wider Seronera area, although spotting them depends on local conditions and luck.

A picnic lunch can be arranged in a designated area within the park, allowing us to spend more time on safari instead of returning to camp during the middle of the day. In the afternoon, we continue exploring different game-drive routes based on recent wildlife activity.

Central Serengeti is a strong choice for a private Tanzania wildlife safari because its habitats support resident animals throughout the year. After the afternoon game drive, we return to the lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight rest.

While sightings cannot be guaranteed, spending several days on private Serengeti game drives provides more opportunities to observe different animals and behaviours.

The Serengeti ecosystem is famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, but the location of the herds changes throughout the year. Central Serengeti offers wildlife viewing beyond the main migration periods as resident animals continue to use its riverine areas and grasslands.

Throughout the day, there will be opportunities for wildlife photography and enjoying the scenery of the African savannah. After the afternoon game drive, we return to our Central Serengeti accommodation for dinner and the final overnight stay in the national park.

After breakfast, we depart from Central Serengeti National Park and begin the journey back to Arusha. As we leave the Seronera area, you may enjoy the final views of the Serengeti's vast savannah plains and wildlife habitats along the route towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

We continue through the scenic landscapes of northern Tanzania, travelling from the Serengeti ecosystem towards Arusha. The return journey takes several hours, depending on road conditions and stops along the way. This day focuses on the transfer back to Arusha rather than a full additional game drive.
