Your safari begins in Mwanza, where you will set out on a scenic drive of approximately 180 kilometres heading west towards the Western Serengeti National Park. This journey typically takes around 4 to 5 hours depending on road conditions and wildlife viewing stops along the way. The route crosses varied landscapes including acacia woodlands and open plains that gently transition into the Serengeti ecosystem.
Upon arrival in the Western Serengeti, you will enter one of the park’s less-visited regions, known for its rich biodiversity and fewer crowds. The area is characterised by the Grumeti River and its surrounding woodlands, offering opportunities to spot large mammals such as elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and an array of predators. Late afternoon game viewing provides excellent light for photography and a chance to observe wildlife preparing for the cooler evening hours.
This initial day is paced to accommodate family needs, allowing for breaks during the drive and a relaxed start to your private safari experience. Your guide will tailor the journey to ensure comfort, engagement, and safety for all ages while highlighting the unique features of the Western Serengeti corridor.
After your afternoon game viewing, you will arrive at your lodge or camp where you can unwind and enjoy dinner surrounded by the sounds of the wild.
