Our journey begins in Moshi, the main gateway for many Mount Kilimanjaro climbing expeditions. After meeting the mountain team and checking that your trekking equipment is ready, we drive to Marangu Gate, where we complete the park registration procedures and prepare to enter Kilimanjaro National Park. Before setting off, we make sure you understand the day’s walking plan, the importance of drinking water regularly, and why a slow, comfortable pace is the best way to begin your private Marangu Route Kilimanjaro climb.
Once we start trekking, the forest surrounds us with tall trees, thick vegetation, and the sounds of birds and other forest wildlife. The trail gradually climbs beneath the rainforest canopy towards Mandara Hut. Some sections may be damp, muddy, or slippery, particularly after rain, so we take care with our footing rather than rushing. Along the way, we have opportunities to appreciate the changing forest scenery and pause for short breaks when needed. The first day is about settling into the rhythm of the mountain, not racing uphill. On arrival at Mandara Hut, we rest, enjoy our meal, and prepare for the climb towards the higher moorland zone. This first stage of your private Kilimanjaro trekking experience helps establish the steady approach we will maintain throughout the route.
