Our private Kilimanjaro climbing adventure begins in Moshi, where we meet the mountain team, check our trekking equipment, and prepare for the journey ahead. We then drive to Marangu Gate, the entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park, where we complete registration before starting our Marangu Route trek. Before we begin walking, I will explain the importance of keeping a steady pace, drinking water regularly, and allowing your body to adjust gradually to the mountain. The first day is not about speed; it is about starting comfortably and building the rhythm that will support us throughout the climb.
As we enter the rainforest, the trail takes us beneath tall trees and dense vegetation, with birdsong and the sounds of the forest accompanying our walk. The path climbs gradually towards Mandara Hut, passing through a lush environment that feels very different from the open landscapes higher on Mount Kilimanjaro. After rainfall, some sections can be muddy or slippery, so we take our time on roots and uneven ground. We pause when needed to appreciate the scenery and take photographs before continuing to the mountain hut. On arrival at Mandara Hut, we settle in, enjoy our meal, and rest for the next stage of our private Marangu Route Kilimanjaro climb.
