4-Day July Serengeti Migration Fly-In Safari from Zanzibar
Our 4 Days Private Serengeti Migration Safari from Zanzibar | Fly-In Kogatende, Fly-Out Seronera is a focused July 2027 fly-in safari that takes you directly from Zanzibar to Northern Serengeti before travelling south through the park and flying back to Zanzibar from Central Serengeti. You spend 2 nights in Northern Serengeti and 1 night in Central Serengeti, giving the Great Migration priority while still experiencing the wildlife-rich Seronera region.
You fly from Zanzibar to Kogatende Airstrip, where your private KiliPori Safaris driver-guide meets you with a 4×4 safari vehicle. July generally brings migrating wildebeest and zebra towards Northern Serengeti and the Mara River ecosystem, although their exact location depends on rainfall, water and grazing. Our guide to how the Great Wildebeest Migration works explains why migration movements vary from year to year.
After a full migration-focused day in Northern Serengeti, you game drive approximately 150–170 km south to Central Serengeti, turning the journey into another wildlife experience rather than returning to Kogatende. On Day 4, you enjoy a final Seronera game drive before flying from Seronera Airstrip back to Zanzibar.
This routing is particularly useful for travellers already staying in Zanzibar because it avoids unnecessary road transfers through Arusha. It also gives a short four-day safari a clear geographical direction: Zanzibar → Kogatende → Northern Serengeti → Central Serengeti → Seronera → Zanzibar. You can see how these areas relate to the seasonal movement in our Great Migration map and monthly wildebeest locations.
Why This Zanzibar–Kogatende–Seronera Route Works
- Fly directly from Zanzibar: Avoid spending your limited safari time on long overland transfers from Arusha.
- Arrive in Northern Serengeti: Kogatende places you close to the main July Great Migration areas.
- 2 nights in the north: You have an arrival-day safari plus a complete migration-focused day.
- Mara River access: Explore the wider Mara River ecosystem according to current herd movements.
- Game drive south: Travel through Serengeti by private 4×4 instead of flying between Kogatende and Seronera.
- 1 night in Central Serengeti: Experience Seronera's resident wildlife before departure.
- Fly directly back to Zanzibar: Finish at Seronera Airstrip and return to your Zanzibar holiday.
- Private throughout Serengeti: Your game-drive vehicle and KiliPori Safaris driver-guide are dedicated to your booking.

Tour Highlights
Day by Day Itinerary
Main Day Experience: Fly from Zanzibar directly into Northern Serengeti and begin your Great Migration safari around Kogatende.
Fly from Zanzibar
You depart Zanzibar on a scheduled bush flight to Kogatende Airstrip. Depending on the airline, routing and intermediate airstrip stops, the journey generally takes approximately 2.5–4 hrs.
Meet your KiliPori guide
Our driver-guide meets you at Kogatende with your private 4×4 Land Cruiser. Your safari starts directly from the airstrip, avoiding another long transfer before wildlife viewing.
Afternoon migration safari
Depending on your arrival time, we spend approximately 3–4 hrs exploring Northern Serengeti. Your guide uses recent wildlife information to choose areas with worthwhile migration and predator activity.
Main Day Experience: Spend a complete private safari day following the July Great Migration around Kogatende and the Mara River ecosystem.
Morning migration search
After breakfast, we begin approximately 3–4 hrs of game viewing, focusing on areas where wildebeest and zebra activity has recently been reported.
Mara River exploration
When herd movements make it worthwhile, we explore accessible sections of the Mara River. Wildebeest may gather close to the river or remain in surrounding grazing areas depending on conditions.
A Mara River crossing cannot be guaranteed or scheduled. Your guide balances time around possible crossing areas with other wildlife opportunities instead of keeping you waiting indefinitely at one point.
For more context on migration safari timing, see our guide to how many days you need for a Great Migration safari.
Lunch & afternoon safari
After lunch, we continue for approximately 2–3 hrs, combining migration tracking with opportunities for lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and other Northern Serengeti wildlife.
Main Day Experience: Follow the Serengeti south from the northern migration areas to Seronera, with wildlife viewing throughout the journey.
Leave Kogatende
After breakfast, we begin travelling south. Wildlife viewing starts immediately, so today's journey remains an active safari rather than a simple road transfer.
Safari towards Central Serengeti
The route from Kogatende to Seronera covers approximately 150–170 km and around 4–5 hrs of direct driving. Lunch, photography, wildlife sightings and road conditions make the actual journey longer.
Changing Serengeti landscapes
Travelling south allows you to see more of the Serengeti ecosystem, moving from the northern migration region towards the grasslands, kopjes and river systems around Central Serengeti.
Afternoon Seronera game drive
After reaching Central Serengeti, we continue wildlife viewing according to the remaining daylight. Seronera supports resident wildlife throughout the year, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and giraffes.
Main Day Experience: Enjoy one final Central Serengeti game drive before flying directly from Seronera back to Zanzibar.
Morning game drive
After breakfast, we enjoy approximately 2–3 hrs of wildlife viewing, depending on your confirmed flight schedule. We focus on productive areas that keep us within reasonable reach of Seronera Airstrip.
Final Serengeti experience
Your final morning provides another opportunity to see Central Serengeti's resident wildlife rather than spending the day on a long road transfer out of the park.
Transfer to Seronera Airstrip
We gradually make our way to Seronera Airstrip for your scheduled flight. The exact transfer time depends on your camp, morning game-drive route and confirmed flight departure.
Fly back to Zanzibar
You board your scheduled Seronera to Zanzibar flight. Depending on routing and intermediate airstrip stops, the journey generally takes approximately 2.5–4 hrs, ending your 4 Days Private Serengeti Migration Safari from Zanzibar | Fly-In Kogatende, Fly-Out Seronera on arrival in Zanzibar.
