Our 6-Day July Tanzania Family Wildlife Adventure: Central and Northern Serengeti is a fully private family safari designed for July 2027, combining Central Serengeti’s year-round wildlife with the seasonal wildlife movement of Northern Serengeti. The route begins and ends in Arusha and uses comfortable midrange lodges or tented camps with private bathrooms, while our private 4×4 vehicle and dedicated professional driver-guide give your family flexibility throughout the safari.

The safari focuses on the Serengeti wildebeest migration, with time in both Central and Northern Serengeti. July is part of the period when migrating herds may move through the northern Serengeti toward the Mara River, making this a suitable time for a Northern Serengeti Great Migration safari and a possible Mara River crossing experience. However, crossings depend on rainfall, river conditions and natural herd movement, so we never guarantee a crossing, a particular herd location or specific wildlife sightings. Our guides monitor current field conditions and local knowledge to position your private Serengeti safari in areas offering promising wildlife-viewing opportunities without crowding animals or interfering with natural movement.

For families, travelling privately means you can adjust game-drive timing, take bathroom and stretching breaks when needed, and maintain a comfortable pace rather than following a shared vehicle schedule. Children also have opportunities to learn about animal behaviour, conservation and the Serengeti wildebeest migration in age-appropriate ways. Our guides keep viewing responsible, particularly around sensitive areas such as the Mara River.

Day by Day Itinerary

Morning Departure from Arusha
After breakfast, we leave Arusha in your private 4×4 safari vehicle and drive toward Tarangire National Park. The drive to Tarangire takes approximately 2–2.5 hours, excluding any comfort stops.

Tarangire Family Game Drive
We spend time on a game drive looking for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, antelopes and other wildlife. Our guide adjusts the pace for your family, allowing time for questions, photographs and short breaks when needed.

Lunch and Transfer to Karatu
After lunch, we leave Tarangire and continue toward Karatu, with the drive taking approximately 2–2.5 hours depending on road and traffic conditions. This transfer time excludes meal, bathroom and weather-related stops.

Breakfast and Departure to Ngorongoro
After breakfast, we depart Karatu for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive to the crater area takes approximately 30–45 minutes before descending into the crater for wildlife viewing.

Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive
We enjoy a family-friendly game drive inside the crater, where you may see lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, zebras, wildebeest and other wildlife. Our guide explains animal behaviour and the crater ecosystem in a way that keeps younger travellers engaged.

Lunch and Journey to Central Serengeti
After the crater experience, we continue toward Central Serengeti. The direct drive from the Ngorongoro area to Central Serengeti generally takes around 3–4 hours, although the actual journey can be longer because of road conditions and approved wildlife-viewing stops.

Breakfast and Morning Game Drive
After breakfast, we begin with a morning game drive through Central Serengeti, using current wildlife conditions to look for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes and large herbivore groups.

Scenic Transfer Toward Northern Serengeti
We continue north through the Serengeti toward the Mara River region. The direct driving portion is approximately 3–4 hours, excluding game viewing, photography, comfort stops and weather-related delays.

Northern Serengeti Migration Search
As we enter Northern Serengeti, our guide monitors signs of Serengeti wildebeest migration activity and recent herd movement. In July, this region can offer opportunities to look for migrating wildebeest and other wildlife associated with the Northern Serengeti Great Migration, but the exact location changes naturally.

Early Breakfast and Northern Serengeti Game Drive
After breakfast, we head into Northern Serengeti with an early start suited to the day's wildlife conditions. Our guide checks current herd movement and recent field observations before choosing the most appropriate areas to explore.

Mara River Wildlife Viewing
We spend substantial time around suitable areas of the Mara River ecosystem, looking for wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, crocodiles, hippos and resident predators. A Mara River safari does not mean a crossing is guaranteed; herds may remain away from the river, approach and turn back, or cross at a different location.

Responsible Crossing Observation
If migrating herds are approaching a crossing area, our guide positions the vehicle responsibly and maintains appropriate distance without blocking animals or interfering with their route. Breakfast and Final Northern Serengeti Game Drive
After breakfast, we make one more morning exploration of Northern Serengeti. Our guide checks the latest wildlife conditions and chooses areas where we have a reasonable opportunity to observe wildlife while avoiding unnecessary pressure around migration routes.

Northern Serengeti to Ngorongoro Area
We then begin our return journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The driving portion from Northern Serengeti toward the Ngorongoro area can take approximately 6–7 hours, depending on the route, road conditions and wildlife-viewing opportunities along the way; this estimate excludes extended game drives and meal stops.

Wildlife and Scenic Stops
