8 Days August Luxury Tanzania Safari | Northern Serengeti and Ngorongoro

Breakfast & Departure
After breakfast, we leave Karatu and drive toward the Serengeti through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The direct travel portion toward Northern Serengeti is approximately 220–250 km and can take around 6–7 hours, depending on road and traffic conditions.

Ngorongoro Highlands to Serengeti
As we travel toward Serengeti, the landscape changes from the highlands and crater area to the open plains of the national park. Driving time excludes wildlife-viewing stops, lunch, comfort breaks and any weather-related delays.

Entering Serengeti
Once inside Serengeti, the safari becomes more flexible as our guide begins checking current wildlife and migration conditions. Depending on the day's conditions, we may conduct an afternoon game drive while continuing toward the Northern Serengeti.

Breakfast & Morning Game Drive
After breakfast, we begin a full-day Northern Serengeti Great Migration experience. Our guide checks recent herd movement and field conditions before selecting the areas offering the most promising opportunities for wildlife viewing.

Tracking the Wildebeest
The Serengeti wildebeest migration is a natural movement rather than a scheduled event, so we do not follow a fixed crossing timetable. We spend time exploring suitable plains and wildlife corridors where wildebeest, zebras and resident predators may be active.

Mara River Viewing Area
If the herds are positioned near the Mara River, our guide selects an appropriate viewing area and waits patiently without crowding wildlife or blocking natural crossing routes. A Mara River crossing may happen quickly, may occur elsewhere, or may not happen during our stay, depending on natural conditions. Breakfast & Early Game Drive
We start with breakfast and an early Mara River safari, using the cooler morning hours for wildlife viewing. Our guide uses current field observations to decide whether to focus on river areas, migration routes or nearby wildlife-rich plains.

Migration & Predator Viewing
August can provide opportunities to see large concentrations of wildebeest and zebra in Northern Serengeti, while lions, leopards, cheetahs and other predators may be encountered in the wider ecosystem. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and we allow the natural environment to determine the day's route.

Patient River-Crossing Observation
Where conditions indicate that herds may approach the Mara River, we position the private vehicle at a suitable viewing point and wait without driving onto crossing routes or pressuring animals. Our Great Migration planning timeline explains why advance planning is useful for August travel.

Breakfast & Morning Wildlife Drive
After breakfast, we continue our August Serengeti safari with another full day dedicated to Northern Serengeti wildlife and migration tracking. Having multiple days in the area gives our guide greater flexibility to respond to changing herd locations.

Northern Serengeti Great Migration
We explore different sections of Northern Serengeti according to current conditions rather than returning repeatedly to one fixed location. This can include open plains, wildlife corridors and areas around the Mara River where appropriate.

Lunch & Afternoon Safari
We take a comfortable lunch break before continuing with the afternoon game drive. Our private vehicle allows us to spend more time at interesting sightings while maintaining appropriate distances and avoiding unnecessary pressure on animals.

Breakfast & Departure
After breakfast, we leave Northern Serengeti and begin our journey south through Serengeti. The driving distance is approximately 100–150 km and around 3–4 hours of direct driving, depending on the exact lodge location and route selected.

Serengeti Wildlife Drive
The transfer is combined with wildlife viewing because the route passes through active safari areas. Actual travel time excludes stops for wildlife, photography, lunch and comfort breaks.

Central Serengeti Afternoon Safari
We continue with an afternoon game drive in Central Serengeti, where resident wildlife can be viewed independently of the migration's seasonal movement. Our guide selects the route according to current wildlife conditions.

Breakfast & Departure
After breakfast, we leave Central Serengeti and drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The direct journey to the crater area is approximately 150–170 km and around 4–5 hours, although wildlife viewing and road conditions can extend the overall travel period.

Ngorongoro Crater Descent
We descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive across the crater floor. The enclosed ecosystem offers opportunities to see elephants, buffalo, lions, hippos, zebras, wildebeest and other wildlife in different habitats.

Crater Game Drive & Lunch
We spend several hours exploring the crater before ascending toward the highlands. Game-viewing time, lunch and comfort stops are separate from the estimated direct driving time.

Breakfast & Departure
After breakfast, we leave Karatu for Arusha. The journey is approximately 160–170 km and around 3–3.5 hours of direct driving, excluding comfort stops, traffic delays and any agreed sightseeing stops.

Final Drive Through Northern Tanzania
We travel through the landscapes around the Great Rift Valley and northern Tanzania while our guide remains available to answer questions about the safari and wildlife experiences. If your schedule allows, we can make a comfortable stop along the way.

Arrival in Arusha
We arrive in Arusha and transfer you to your preferred hotel or agreed drop-off point. The safari ends after the private transfer, completing your August 2027 Tanzania private safari focused on Northern Serengeti, the Serengeti wildebeest migration, possible Mara River crossing activity and Ngorongoro.
