6-Day January Family Safari in Tanzania | Ndutu Calving Season, Central Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater

We make convenient bathroom stops along the way as we ascend into the cooler, lush environment of the Ngorongoro highlands.

Lodge Pool and Garden Rest Arriving in Karatu by mid-afternoon, your family checks into a comfortable lodge featuring beautiful gardens and a swimming pool. The kids can swim and burn off energy in a safe, enclosed environment while parents relax on the veranda before dinner.

Early Crater Descent After a hearty breakfast, we make the short 30-minute drive to the Ngorongoro gate and descend 600 meters onto the crater floor. This enclosed caldera is incredibly dense with wildlife, making it easy for kids to quickly spot rhinos, buffalos, and lions from the vehicle.

Hippo Pool Lunch and Final Sightings We spend roughly 4 to 5 hours exploring the diverse habitats of the crater floor. At midday, we stop at the designated hippo pool picnic site, where your family can eat lunch safely while watching hippos resting in the water just a few meters away.
